Castelvispal
Castelvispal is a small town that is administratively part of the municipality of Linares de Mora.
Castelvispal (known as El Vispal) is a small, charming village that has been administratively part of the municipality of Linares de Mora since 1971. Its name literally means “The Bishop’s Castle,” a legacy of its medieval past and the fort that once stood on the hill where it is situated.
Located about 12 kilometers from Linares and at an elevation of 1,080 meters, it is tucked away in a spectacular valley surrounded by dense pine forests.
Today, the village is a true reflection of rural Aragon: it has a permanent population of just 6 to 8 residents. However, it refuses to fade away and comes alive in the summer, on weekends, and during its patron saint festivities in honor of Santa Quiteria (in May), when the descendants return to their homes.
In addition to wandering through its steep streets and visiting the Church of the Assumption, Castelvispal is a magnificent destination for nature tourism. Stunning hiking trails begin in the town center, such as the path to the imposing Arquero Waterfall, and its surrounding hills are a true mycological paradise in the fall.
