Casa Fabián Ethnological Museum

The Casa Fabián Ethnological Museum in Alquézar was founded thanks to an initiative by the Castillo-Seas family, with the goal of preserving and passing on the town’s culture and folk traditions. The house, which dates back to the 18th century and belonged to the Fabián Castillo family, houses numerous objects and tools that were part of the daily life of previous generations.

The collection began to be assembled and preserved thanks to Fabián Castillo Rodrigo and his wife, Teresa Seas Pérez, who maintained the house and kept old objects that, although they seemed of little use at the time, today represent an important part of Alquézar’s ethnological heritage.

The collection brings together objects related to the main traditional activities and ways of life in the Somontano region. Each piece offers insight into how previous generations lived, worked, and made use of resources, revealing a culture based on work, self-sufficiency, and the efficient use of materials.

The museum also holds significant linguistic and cultural value: many of the pieces are labeled with their traditional names in Aragonese or “fabla,” including words and expressions specific to Alquézar.

More than simply recalling the past, the museum aims to preserve and pass on the folk culture of “Alquézar” to new generations. The collection has also been enriched thanks to donations and items on loan from local residents.

The Casa Fabián Ethnological Museum is, in short, a space dedicated to preserving the memory, traditions, and cultural identity of Alquézar through objects and testimonies of the daily lives of its residents.
