Villanueva de los Infantes and Anadia (Portugal) Sign a Sister City Agreement

07 Sept 2026 · 17:55

Villanueva de los Infantes and the Portuguese municipality of Anadia have strengthened their ties with the signing of a twinning agreement between both towns. The event took place on September 4th in the Plenary Hall of the Villanueva de los Infantes Town Hall, where a commitment was formalized to lay the foundations for a stable and lasting collaboration between both municipalities.

The signing was attended by the mayor of Villanueva de los Infantes, Carmen María Montalbán, members of the Municipal Corporation, the mayor of Anadia, Jorge Sampaio, as well as representatives from TURINFA, the Asociación Cruz de Santiago, and other individuals linked to the twinning project, such as José Ignacio Moncayo.

During the ceremony, the mayor of Anadia highlighted that this twinning has been made possible thanks to those who were able to identify the numerous common points between both towns. Among them, he particularly noted the importance of wine and tourism, two sectors with significant weight in the identity and economy of both municipalities.

However, the Portuguese leader wanted to emphasize an element he considers even more important: "the will to create a future together." A will that will translate into the implementation of various collaboration and exchange initiatives between Villanueva de los Infantes and Anadia.

Cultural exchanges between young people

One of the first fruits of this agreement will be the program that both municipalities are working on for 2027. Among the planned initiatives, cultural exchanges between young people from Anadia and Villanueva de los Infantes stand out.

Thus, young Portuguese people will have the opportunity to visit Villanueva de los Infantes, while young people from Villanueva will travel to Anadia to learn firsthand about the culture, traditions, and social reality of the neighboring country. An experience that aims to foster learning, coexistence, and mutual enrichment, while creating new bonds between the younger generations.

New opportunities for businesses

The twinning agreement will also have an economic dimension. One of the objectives is to leverage the collaboration between both municipalities to open new commercial opportunities for the agri-food companies of Villanueva de los Infantes and Anadia, especially those linked to products such as wine, cheese, or oil. In this way, the twinning aspires to also become a tool to foster the awareness and promotion of local products in new markets, as well as to establish contacts between companies from both territories.
