The “Quevedo” Municipal Library is expanding its section on authors from Infante with the addition of three works by Bartolomé Jiménez Patón

The “Quevedo” Municipal Library in Villanueva de los Infantes continues to expand its collection dedicated to the great authors historically linked to the town with the acquisition of three new works by Bartolomé Jiménez Patón, one of the most prominent figures of Spanish Humanism. A distinguished grammarian, rhetorician, educator, and writer, his literary and educational works exerted a notable influence on the teaching and development of the Castilian language during the 16th and 17th centuries. He is one of the main cultural icons of Villanueva de los Infantes and a cornerstone for understanding the artistic, humanistic, and spiritual significance that characterized the city during the Golden Age.

The three new additions are:

• Spanish Eloquence in Art

• The Perfect Preacher

• The Discreet Virtuoso. Parts One and Two, in a critical edition by Jaume Garau and María del Carmen Bosch.

This acquisition is part of a series of initiatives that the Villanueva de los Infantes City Council, through its Department of Culture and Tourism, has been carrying out to highlight the contributions of this and other historical figures. Among these initiatives is the opening of the Casa de los Estudios—the grammar school where Jiménez Patón held his chair—as a museum space, featuring a recreation of one of its classrooms and an interpretive room within the building, featuring facsimile editions and explanatory panels on the various authors belonging to the prominent circle of humanists associated with the Renaissance and Baroque-era Infantes.
