The winner of the “Descubre” Cultural Contest in Villanueva de los Infantes, Isabel Vélez Guijarro, has already received her prize from Mariano Luciano, the councilor for Senior Citizens, and the president of the Manuel Ruiz Bernal Foundation.

The prize consists of a two-night stay for four people in Cieza and one night in Caravaca de la Cruz, in addition to a cash prize of 200 euros.

The “Descubre” contest promotes cultural tourism and partnerships between regions as a means of promotion and mutual understanding. To participate, contestants had to correctly complete a questionnaire with questions related to the history, heritage, and cultural legacy of the three participating towns, thereby helping to highlight the historical and cultural richness of Villanueva de los Infantes, Cieza, and Caravaca de la Cruz.

Cieza, known as the “Pearl of the Segura,” is renowned for its Holy Week celebrations, designated as an Event of International Tourist Interest, as well as for its cave paintings, which are part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Arc of the Iberian Peninsula, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Meanwhile, the inclusion this year of Caravaca de la Cruz—one of the five holy cities of the world—represents a significant boost for this cultural event, which continues to strengthen the bonds between municipalities united by their heritage, history, and cultural richness.
