The "Tuyo Cid" theater turns the epic poem into a fun family show in Villanueva de los Infantes

On Saturday, August 15, the “La Encarnación” Municipal Auditorium in Villanueva de los Infantes hosted a performance of “Tuyo Cid,” a theatrical production by the Malaje Sólo company that revives the traditional figure of the troubadour to make the “Cantar de Mío Cid” accessible to today’s audience, using family-friendly humor and audience interaction.

“It’s a tribute to the minstrel, who is essentially the origin of the acting profession; and also to the ‘Poem of Mío Cid’ itself, which we tell in a lighthearted way while respecting the original text,” says José Antonio Aguilar, the play’s director and performer.

“Tuyo Cid” not only drew a large audience but was also a hit in terms of audience participation, as the audience’s involvement in the staging is one of the show’s hallmarks. In this way, both adults and children were able to engage with one of the foundational texts of Castilian literature while also enjoying themselves on stage. The event is part of the cultural program of the Castile-La Mancha Network for the Performing Arts and Music.
