The Macvac in Vilafamés hosts Sara Bellés's exhibition on the transformation that comes with motherhood.

The Vicente Aguilera Cerni Museum of Contemporary Art of Vilafamés (MACVAC) is hosting the exhibition by artist Sara Bellés “An Artistic Look at Motherhood”, a proposal that explores, through visual creation and personal experience, one of the most profound transformations in life. The exhibition is part of the programme of the Motherhood Congress, which will take place this coming Saturday, 7 November, at 11.00 am, in Vilafamés. Afterwards, at 12.00 pm, a guided visit to the MACVAC will be held, with a circuit dedicated to rural women. The activities are free for those registered for the Motherhood Congress.

The exhibition stems from the artist's own experience and from how motherhood transformed her way of looking at the world. When her first son was two years old, Bellés presented the public with a first collection of works on motherhood. She painted, drew and observed in an attempt to preserve those everyday moments that she knew would inevitably slip from her memory. From that period emerged close to a hundred pieces in which the experience of being a mother also became artistic material.
Years later, with her two children growing up and a different outlook on life, the artist returns to those works from another perspective.

The evolution of motherhood

Motherhood has evolved along with her: it is no longer the same experience, nor does it have the same rhythms or the same needs. Her world has expanded, and so has her way of understanding love, which no longer consists solely of being close, but also of learning to let grow and to accompany from a distance. This evolution is one of the axes of the exhibition proposal. Bellés sets up a dialogue between the woman she was and the one she is today, between the first memories of child-rearing and the awareness that each stage has its own language. Motherhood thus appears not as a static or idealised experience, but as a process of continuous learning, transformation and identity.

In her reflections, the artist also evokes the sensory intensity of the postpartum period and of her son's first months of life: the smells, the contact of skin, the small expressions, the laughter and everyday gestures. Memories that, with the passing of time, fade away and awaken the desire to find a way to preserve them. In this sense, artistic creation becomes a form of memory, a way of feeling again and of preserving what time transforms.

With this exhibition, the MACVAC brings to the context of the Motherhood Congress an artistic proposal that broadens the reflection on this experience from an intimate, sensitive and contemporary perspective. A look that connects the personal with the collective and invites us to think about family bonds, the passage of time, care and the different ways of living and understanding motherhood.
