The Morella City Council is renovating the Paseo de Ronda between the Sant Miquel Towers and the Torre Redona

The project, with an investment of 50,000 euros from the Wind Compensation Funds, will allow for the restoration of a highly deteriorated section of the walkway and improve its safety and accessibility

In the coming months, the number of towers open to the public will increase from two to a total of six: the Sant Miquel towers, the Torre Redonda, the Torre del Consell, Font Vella, and Beneito

This intervention expands heritage protection and the tourism offering, and aims to serve as a catalyst for the rehabilitation and adaptation of further sections of the wall

The Morella City Council is carrying out rehabilitation works on the Paseo de Ronda located between the Sant Miquel towers and the Torre Redonda, an initiative that will allow for the recovery and enablement of this section of the city wall.

The walkway was in a significant state of deterioration, with the pavement heavily damaged and affected by water seepage. Furthermore, the characteristics of the route, with its great height and lack of adequate protection, made it necessary to take action to ensure the safety of visitors and make it passable.

The project, approved by the Department of Culture, includes the complete renovation of the section. As part of the works, the existing pavement has been removed, metal support structures have been installed on the wall itself, and the pavement is being reconstructed with a cobblestone finish, recovering the characteristic features of this heritage space. A protective railing has also been added to ensure the safety of the walkway.

The project, with a budget of 50,000 euros, is fully financed through the Wind Compensation Funds and has been awarded to CISE, with the works being executed by the Morella City Council's construction brigade.

The intervention will also allow for progress in the tourism and heritage recovery of the Torre Redonda. Once the walkway works are completed, the project is set to be finalized with the installation of electricity in the tower, which currently lacks it. In this way, the Torre Redonda will be incorporated into the set of visitable towers in Morella, expanding the offering linked to the city's defensive heritage.

With this action, as explained by the mayor, Bernabé Sangüesa, "during this year 2026, Morella will go from having two visitable towers—the Sant Miquel towers—to expanding this route with four new heritage spaces." The Torre del Consell is already visitable 24 hours a day and, with the addition of the Torre Redonda, the visitable set of the Sant Miquel towers will be expanded.

Furthermore, it is expected that the Beneito and Font Vella towers will soon be accessible digitally, thus expanding the possibilities for discovering Morella's fortified heritage.

The City Council expects the work on the Paseo de Ronda to be completed in the coming weeks, thus finalizing an initiative that allows for the recovery of a heritage space, the improvement of its safety conditions, and its integration into the visitor route of the walls of Morella.
