Painter Baldomero Moreiras will open the doors of his home-studio this Sunday, October 18, located in one of the most emblematic historic buildings in the square of Vilanova dos Infantes (Celanova). The visit is part of the third edition of Estudios Abertos Ourense.
The initiative is organized by A Maquinadora, with the collaboration of, among others, the Concello de Celanova, the Diputación de Ourense, and the Xunta de Galicia. This is not the first time the artist has participated in Estudios Abertos Ourense. In the first edition, he opened his studio in the old rectory of Golpellás, in Paderne de Allariz. Now, he invites you to discover his home, which, in addition to his own work, houses an important collection of Galician art, with a notable presence of artists from Ourense.
Baldomero Moreiras (Celanova, 1955) is an artist with a long and varied career. He trained at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Ourense, studied engraving in Madrid, and in 1982 he settled in Rome, where he sold watercolors in Piazza Navona and taught ceramics. His work ranges from graphic design and editorial illustration to large black canvases and three-dimensional pieces. He has exhibited in Madrid, Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Rome, and Valencia, and his recent projects include El eco de las amazonas and Válvula de escape. Friso Locus Amoenus, which can be visited until October 19 at the Casa dos Poetas in Celanova (rúa Curros Enríquez, 37 - Celanova).
Schedule and location
The studio is only open on Sunday the 18th, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 20:00, at the Praza Victor Ferro in Vilanova dos Infantes. Estudios Abertos also offers guided tours that can be booked in advance on their website, estudiosabertos.com, where you can also consult the complete map of spaces. More information about the artist at bmoreiras.com.
The event has an added attraction: the location. Vilanova dos Infantes, presided over by its medieval tower and crossed by cobbled streets, joined the network of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España in 2026. Those who visit will be able to combine the trip to the studio with a walk through a heritage site that includes the keep and the sanctuary of the Virgen del Cristal.
This year's programme extends over two weekends: October 17th and 18th, with "Arte na provincia", and from the 23rd to the 25th, with "Arte na cidade", when artist studios in the city of Ourense will open simultaneously. In total, 19 spaces and more than 30 artists are participating throughout the province of Ourense.
Theatre in Celanova
This will not be the only activity of the weekend. In Celanova, the theatrical performance "Molto Barroco" by Píscore Teatro is scheduled for Sunday at 19:00. The play is part of the programme for the 19th edition of the Festival Internacional de Teatro de Ourense (FITO) (https://fitoourense.com/19a-edicion/). The performance will take place at the Auditorio Municipal Ilduara (Barrio do Cercado s/n) and tickets, priced at 4 euros, will be on sale one hour before at the auditorium box office.
