Poza de la Sal'S DIAPIRO

Behind the salt-mining village of Poza de la Sal lies the most perfectly formed diapir in all of Europe. It is a geological formation caused by salt pushing its way to the surface. Its appearance, resembling an almost perfect volcanic cone, has earned it the designation of a Point of Geological Interest. Among the materials found inside, in addition to the white mineral, are red clays, gypsum, and a black-green rock called opite, which forms the center of the crater, known as El Castellar or Peña Negra.
