Here's all the basic information and highlights you need to make the most of your experience:
Basic Trail Information
Trail Type: Loop.
Distance: 11.5 km
Difficulty: Moderate.
Estimated duration: Between 3 and 4.5 hours, depending on your pace and the number of stops you make.
Start and End: The trail begins and ends in the charming village of La Almeza (located in the northern part of our municipality). It is marked with the white and yellow markings characteristic of PR trails.
Highlights of the Route
This trail is a true gem because it winds through our juniper forest, considered one of the most ecologically valuable relict forests of Spanish juniper (Juniperus thurifera). Along the way, we recommend paying special attention to:
Monumental Trees: You’ll be able to admire the “Travina Juana,” a historic Spanish juniper with a trunk circumference of 6 meters, a height of nearly 14 meters, and an estimated age of about 500 years.
Traditional Architecture and Ethnology: You’ll see the “verónicas,” small whitewashed shrines housing religious images. You’ll also pass through agricultural landscapes of grain fields, dotted with huts and traditional dry-stone structures.
Elements of pastoral life: You’ll pass by the Navajo de Pinazo, a semi-natural pond that traditionally served as a watering hole for livestock and is now a refuge for amphibians, as well as the ruins of the ancient settlement of Cañada Pastores.
Panoramic Views: As you ascend toward Monte de la Ceja, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the deep Hoz de Marta gorge and the imposing Muelas de Alpuente hills.
The Village of La Torre: A beautiful mountain village that once fell into disuse but is now being revitalized thanks to the careful restoration of its houses, always respecting the traditional architectural style of the area.
Enjoy your hike through our region!
