This trail is an extraordinary and very comprehensive option that winds through ancient paths, historic abandoned villages, and natural landscapes of great beauty. Along the way, we recommend paying special attention to:

  • Traditional Architecture and Ethnology: The route begins by heading down San Blas Street and the Camino de los Huertos Medievales. Along the way, you’ll venture into ancient, now-deserted hamlets such as Hortichuela Vieja and La Hortichuela, where you’ll walk among the ruins of their main streets, which bear witness to the area’s rural past.

  • Elements of Pastoral Life and Fountains: You’ll pass by the famous Fuente del Cabezo, an ideal oasis to cool off and rest halfway through the route, and you’ll walk along historic cattle trails and livestock paths flanked by dry-stone walls that were traditionally used for the movement and herding of livestock.

  • Panoramic Views: As you proceed along the rocky trail and climb toward Los Pajares on the final stretch, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the northern skyline of the town of Alpuente, taking in the striking rock formation fractured by a fault line upon which its historic castle stands.

  • River Landscapes and Ravines: The route will take you on a winding descent toward the Reguero Ravine. You’ll enjoy a natural setting where you’ll cross a first ravine and, shortly afterward, the Reguero River itself in a beautiful riverside setting.

  • Agricultural and Scenic Environment: The trail winds its way through the landscape, combining technical sections of rocky path with trails that skirt fields of barley and rain-fed grains, offering a beautiful color contrast between the cultivated landscape and the rugged wilderness of La Serranía.
