Next Sunday, October 25, 2026, Almonaster la Real will once again become a meeting point for athletics and popular racing enthusiasts with the celebration of the XXXII Cross Subida a la Mezquita, one of the most iconic and well-established sporting events in the Sierra de Huelva.
This competition, now in its thirty-second edition, brings together sport, nature, history, and heritage on a unique route that runs through some of the most representative corners of the town. It is an event that stands out both for its physical demands and the beauty of the surroundings in which it takes place.
The absolute race will start at 12:00 from the central Calle Real, where participants will begin a 6,500-meter course, characterized by constant changes in pace, elevation changes, and sections of varying difficulty. The circuit will combine the traditional streets of Almonaster la Real with trails and cross-country areas, offering a demanding route that will test the runners' endurance and preparation.
With approximately 200 meters of positive elevation gain, the race features a challenging profile where climbs and descents follow one another throughout the itinerary. Participants will face a sporting challenge that requires effort, perseverance, and the ability to adapt to the characteristics of the terrain.
One of the great attractions of this competition is its spectacular finish line, located next to the historic Mezquita de Almonaster la Real, one of the town's most representative monuments. Situated at the top of the walled enclosure of the old castle, this construction of Andalusian origin provides an exceptional setting to finish the race, making the final meters of the route one of its most special moments.
