Evento: 17 Oct 2026 — 25 Oct 2026

From October 17 to 25, 2026, Vejer de la Frontera will experience one of the most special celebrations on its calendar to mark the 150th anniversary of the granting of its city title. To commemorate this significant milestone, Nuestra Señora de la Oliva Coronada, patron saint and Perpetual Mayor of the town, will make an extraordinary journey from her sanctuary to the historic center, headlining nine days of religious, cultural, historical, and institutional events.

This celebration is a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to share in one of Vejer's most deeply rooted traditions, in a gathering that unites history, heritage, devotion, and local identity.

The program will begin on Saturday, October 17, when the image of the Virgen de la Oliva will depart from her sanctuary at 4:00 PM. Her arrival at the San Miguel neighborhood is scheduled for 6:30 PM, where she will receive the affection and welcome of the local residents. At 9:00 PM, the Municipal Corporation will hold an official reception at the doors of the Town Hall, before continuing the procession to the Parroquia del Divino Salvador, where her arrival is expected at 10:30 PM.

On Sunday, October 18, at 7:00 PM, a Eucharistic celebration will take place, presided over by Monsignor Ramón Valdivia, during which Gonzalo Núñez del Castillo will take office as the new parish priest of Vejer. Subsequently, from October 19 to 23, the traditional Quinario in honor of the patron saint will be held.

One of the highlights will arrive on Saturday, October 24, the date officially commemorating the 150 years since Vejer was granted the title of city. Throughout this day, commemorative activities, historical sessions, theatrical performances, and institutional acts will take place, aimed at highlighting the history and heritage of the town. At 8:30 PM, an extraordinary veneration and an emotional tribute from the people of Vejer to Nuestra Señora de la Oliva Coronada will take place.

The celebration will conclude on Sunday, October 25 with a solemn mass at 11:00 AM, during which the ceremony of handing over the baton of command to the mayor, Antonio González, will be held. At 3:00 PM, the return journey of the Virgin to her sanctuary will begin, with a farewell scheduled in the San Miguel neighborhood at 4:15 PM.

During these nine days, the streets and squares of Vejer de la Frontera will become the stage for a commemoration that will allow visitors to rediscover the town's history and experience its most representative traditions firsthand.

A special opportunity to visit one of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España and enjoy a celebration that brings together heritage, culture, history, and tradition in an incomparable setting.
