EL PERRO DEL HORTELANO
Corral de Comedias
24 September 2026 - 8:30 p.m.
A story of blue blood, eroticism and privilege — those enjoyed by the aristocracy at the beginning of the 17th century. The Dog in the Manger, a drama of love, envy, jealousy and honour, was written in 1613 by the great playwright Lope de Vega.
The action, set in Naples, tells the story of Diana, Countess of Belfor. Diana is a beautiful and stubborn young woman who is pursued by several aristocratic suitors wishing to marry her. However, Diana constantly rejects all their advances. One night, after seeing her secretary making love to her favourite lady-in-waiting, she falls madly in love with him and becomes sick with jealousy.
This is the story of a love triangle, of forbidden loves and betrayals, which takes place when Naples was under Spanish rule. Thus, the Countess's household, manipulated by the nobles, represents that part of Spanish society that lived outside the country. Setting the action in this European city also allows the play to be full of Italian influences and plots, which Lope was so fond of.
LA DAMA BOBA
Corral de Comedias
25 September 2026 - 8:30 p.m.
La dama boba, finished being written on 28 April 1613, is a work belonging to the genre of comedy of intrigue that raises the recurring and revisited comic game between love and reason, typical both of the Golden Age and of its great author Lope de Vega.
AMOR SECRETO HASTA LOS CELOS
Corral de Comedias
26 September 2026 - 8:30 p.m.
Amor secreto hasta celos stages, as its name clearly indicates, a comedy of intrigues motivated by loves, secrets and jealousy. The action takes place mainly in Zaragoza, at an indeterminate time in the Middle Ages, and revolves around the difficulties of two lovers of noble condition, doña Clara and don Juan. Although it is a requited love, the lady does not want to reveal her love for fear of what they will say about her at court. Doña Clara accepts don Juan's love on one condition: that both keep their passion so secret that no one can discover it. This is the starting situation that sets in motion the amorous conflicts of the comedy and its dramatic situations, since both doña Clara and don Juan are objects of desire for other characters who will try to achieve their goal.
DON GIL DE LAS CALZAS VERDES
Corral de Comedias
27 September 2026 - 6:30 p.m.
Don Gil de las calzas verdes is a classic of the Spanish Golden Age that still resonates strongly in our time.
And this work, written in the 17th century, is much more than a comedy of intrigue; it is a celebration of wit and female power, values that today, more than ever, we need to recognise and vindicate on stage.
