Women Artists in Vilafamés – MACVAC

The Vicente Aguilera Cerni Museum of Contemporary Art (MACVAC) presents Women Artists in Vilafamés, a project by artist and researcher Concha Mayordomo that highlights the role of women in art history and helps restore the memory of female creators who were sidelined or forgotten in traditional art narratives.

The exhibition brings together a series of portraits of artists associated with the museum’s collection and is integrated into the permanent collection’s exhibition layout. Through her drawings, Mayordomo offers a perspective that invites reflection on gender inequality in the history of the fine arts and on the mechanisms that have shaped the recognition and presence of women within academic canons.

The exhibition incorporates an educational component through QR codes that provide access to the artist’s research, featuring information on female creators, theorists, and patrons who, despite having achieved recognition in their own time, were later sidelined or excluded from the official narratives of art history.

In addition, the works by Valencian artists featured in the project will become part of the MACVAC collection through a donation by the artist herself, reinforcing the museum’s commitment to raising the visibility of women artists and recovering their legacy.

Concha Mayordomo, who holds a degree in Fine Arts and is an independent curator with an extensive exhibition track record, carries out artistic and research work focused on equality and the recognition of women in the cultural sphere.

This initiative is organized in conjunction with November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and serves as an invitation to discover other voices in art history, question the omissions, and recognize women’s fundamental contribution to artistic creation.

Opening: November 28, at 12:00 p.m.
Location: Museu d’Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni (MACVAC), Vilafamés.
