"The Legacy of Women in Molinaseca"

According to the artist, this exhibition is a journey tinged with red, dedicated to women—from queens to those who have devoted themselves to the humanities, research, agriculture, mining, and caring for their families. Each portrait is a footprint, and together we have charted a path of creation.

With her brushes, she seeks to capture their image using an ancient pigment derived from nature that was used in pre-Hispanic times. It was used by the Aztec Empire to dye their textiles.

The drawings are created using pigment from the fine cochineal insect, which lives exclusively on the nopal cactus. Carmine or carminic acid—the natural food coloring E-120—is extracted from this insect. The pigment is so sensitive that its hue changes with even the slightest variation. Thus, to obtain a red color, it is ground in a white porcelain mortar with water; if mixed with acids or alkalis, other shades are produced.
