From October 9 to 12, 2026, Almonaster la Real will once again immerse itself in its Al-Andalus past with the celebration of the 26th Islamic Culture Festival, one of the town’s most iconic cultural events. For four days, its streets, squares, and historic Mosque will become venues where history, heritage, music, cuisine, and tradition come together.
The program will begin on Friday, October 9, with the opening of an exhibition of Al-Andalus astrolabes and the official opening ceremony at the Mosque, accompanied by the “Sueños de Azahar” concert, a tea ceremony, and pastry tastings.
Saturday, October 10, will be packed with events. The program includes the International Symposium “Female Figures in the Arab and Islamic World,” culinary workshops, storytelling, dancing, parades, and entertainment in the souk. As evening falls, the streets will come even more alive with the circus show “The Night of 1,000 Stories,” a fire show, and a concert by La Banda Morisca in the Plaza del Llano.
Sunday, the 11th, will be dedicated to delving deeper into history and traditions with the guided tour “The Rural Mosque and Water,” lectures, argan oil workshops, and henna tattoos. One of the most unique moments will be the call to prayer from the minaret, followed by an evening of dhikr and dinner at the Mosque. The day will conclude with music by Alcanatif.
The festival will conclude on Monday, October 12, with street theater in the souk, a final dramatized tour of the Mosque, and a concert by Kabayla Zingary, before the official closing ceremony.
Throughout the celebration, the souk, workshops, performances, music, and culinary offerings will help transform Almonaster la Real into a space for community and the celebration of its important Al-Andalus heritage. In addition, the program is rounded out by the traditional digital photography contest, which invites participants to capture some of the best moments of this 26th edition.
