Hita will be an ideal spot to view the solar eclipse
The astronomical phenomenon will be visible from the Puerta de la Laguna area starting at 7:30 p.m. on August 12
The town of Hita has been selected by the Regional Government of Castile-La Mancha as one of the official viewing sites for the eclipse in the province of Guadalajara. The town is an ideal location because it sits on the slope of a hill with wide, unobstructed views of the surrounding area. The City Council has designated the area known as Puerta de la Laguna—a set of old threshing floors facing west—as the observation site.
The program of activities includes several informational talks that will take place on August 11 and 12 at the Casa del Arcipreste. On August 12, starting at 6:00 p.m., the information booth and distribution point for certified eclipse glasses will open at the Palenque. Observation of the partial phase of the eclipse will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Puerta de la Laguna area. Several telescopes are scheduled to be set up. At 8:00 p.m., in the same area, a classical music concert will be held, and at 8:30 p.m., attendees will be able to enjoy the eighty seconds of total darkness. Afterward, at 9:00 p.m., a party is scheduled at the Palenque that will include dinner, drinks, and music featuring several DJs.
The Hita City Council has collaborated with the Astroguada and Aureola associations to organize the event. The organizers will remind participants at all times that the use of approved eclipse glasses is mandatory to view the eclipse safely.
