In 2024, Sepúlveda became the main filming location for the third season of "Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol," one of the spin-offs of the hit American series "The Walking Dead." The season began airing worldwide in September 2025.

What is "The Walking Dead"?

It is an American television series combining drama, horror, action, and science fiction, based on a very popular comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, whose premise revolves around a post-apocalyptic world in which a group of survivors faces a world engulfed in a zombie apocalypse.

The main character is Rick Grimes; the story begins when he, a deputy sheriff, wakes up from a coma after several months and discovers that his world has been overrun by zombies—or, as they call them, “walkers.”  Rick and his group fight not only against these creatures but also against other groups of humans who pose just as much of a threat due to the desperation they all share to survive. Over the course of eleven seasons, the group changes and grows as it faces various challenges and enemies in a collapsed civilization.

*The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon* is the fifth spin-off and the sixth television series overall in the franchise, sharing continuity with the other series and set after the conclusion of the original television series.

Filming of the third season of *Daryl Dixon* in Sepúlveda

AMC and the Málaga-based production company Ánima Stillking began filming in October 2024, and production continued through January 2025.

During filming in the town, there was an unprecedented mobilization of resources, a technical crew of more than 300 people, several dozen extras from various parts of Spain—including residents of Sepúlveda themselves—all of which helped transform our town in a spectacular way for a production of this magnitude.

Filming took place at various locations in Sepúlveda, such as the Plaza de España, the town’s historic buildings, and the Las Pucherillas neighborhood, as well as other sets created specifically for the series. One example is a wall with dozens of battlements on a stone parapet along the road, featuring an imposing arch built for the occasion next to the Puerta del Río, one of the seven gates of Sepúlveda’s walled enclosure.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Tour in Sepúlveda

In 2024, Sepúlveda became the main setting for the filming of the third season of “Daryl Dixon: The Book of Carol,” one of the spin-offs of the hit American series “The Walking Dead.”

In the words of Greg Nicotero, executive producer and director of the series: “Sepúlveda is a unique setting, close to Madrid, that boasts a multitude of spaces and locations that have been little explored.”

With the Daryl Dixon Trail in Sepúlveda, the Tourist Office invites you to discover the locations and natural settings used to film this hit series in our town. Will you come discover them?

Let’s get started...

1. Plaza de España

We begin this tour at one of the most beautiful spots in Sepúlveda and one of the main settings for the third season of *Daryl Dixon*: the Plaza de España.

2. Plaza del Trigo and the climb to El Salvador

From Plaza de España, we head to the adjacent Plaza del Trigo, a place of trade and a marketplace in the past, which in the series seems to evoke those times.

From here, we continue our walk along Calle Subida a El Salvador to the church of the same name, a unique setting that takes center stage in several scenes.

3. La Silla del Caballo

Once at the top of the town, where we can enjoy a panoramic view, we head down Calle Las Cofradías until we reach the nursing home; from there, we can admire not only beautiful sunsets but also the spot known as “Silla del Caballo,” the location chosen by the series to film the scene in which the main characters arrive at Solaz del Mar and from where they enter the town coming from the sea.

4. The Las Pucherillas Neighborhood

From this point, we head back toward the town, to Calle del Conde de Sepúlveda, to the Casa del Parque, and from there we’ll cross the road and go down the stairs to the Las Pucherillas neighborhood—a magical place dominated by the Puerta del Río and the Virgin of the same name, and through whose gate we’ll pass to descend to one of the locations where an artificial wall was built for the series.
