Alpuente: A Journey Through Its Traditions

Alpuente's festivals are much more than just events; they are the heart of the community, where families and neighbors come together to celebrate what unites us.

The festivals in Alpuente are much more than just events; they are the heart of the community, where families and neighbors come together to celebrate what unites us. Our town is a living stage where history, faith, and popular joy intertwine in a unique festival calendar. Visiting Alpuente means immersing yourself in the essence of the Valencian mountains, where every corner echoes with ancient traditions.

The Heart of Our Identity: The Fiestas Gordas

The jewel of our festive heritage is the Fiestas Gordas, held in honor of the Virgin of Consolation and Saint Blaise. Every three years, Alpuente and Corcolilla come together in a dance of devotion that culminates in May and August.

The climax occurs during the May pilgrimage: the exchange of statues between the two towns. It is here that the “Ángeles” appear—children between the ages of five and eight who, with their curled-paper wings and traditional costumes, recite the traditional “dichos.” It is a scene of timeless beauty, a rite of passage that connects us to the deepest roots of the Mediterranean.

During these festive months, the town is transformed: parades, processions of Moors and Christians, street festivals, and historical reenactments fill our streets with color and life.

A Living Calendar: Festivals That Set the Pace

Alpuente pulses with energy all year round:

  • San Antonio (January 17): the traditional blessing of the animals, a tribute to our historic connection to the countryside.

  • San Blas (February 3): our patron saint, whose image is enshrined in the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad.

  • Fiesta de los Quintos (second week of Easter): Once a farewell to military service, today it is a vibrant celebration of youth and a sense of community.

  • Santa Lucía (December 13): Tradition and reflection to close out the year.

Our Villages: The Soul of the Sierra

The charm of Alpuente also lies in its villages, each with its own personality and its own main festival during the summer. This is the best time to experience the hospitality of our people:

Corcolilla: Saint Peter the Martyr / Saint Barnabas / Our Lady of Consolation (April/June/May)

Campo de Abajo: San Isidro (Last Sunday in July)

Hontanar: San Cristóbal (Penultimate weekend in July)

Campo de Arriba: Santa Bárbara (2nd weekend in August)

Baldovar: San Roque (August 16)

Almeza: Our Lady of La Cabeza (last weekend in August)

Cuevarruz: Saint Joseph (The week following Corpus Christi)

Collado: San Miguel (September 29)

Come to Alpuente. Come experience the excitement of a tradition that refuses to fade into oblivion and awaits you with open arms.
