Ethnographic Museum

The Ethnographic Museum is located in what used to be the old school buildings. It shares the space with the Community Center, the restaurant La Tarihuela, and the visitor information and reception area.

It features exhibits that reflect the village’s rich traditional customs, festivals, and working life through objects and tools used in the past, as well as a collection of historical photographs spanning the entire 20th century.

It features the following areas:

v Common Areas:Reception and restrooms, Social Center – La Tarihuela Bar and Restaurant, Audiovisual and Exhibition Hall.

v Loom and Textile Arts. The loom is one of the museum’s treasures. There were once as many as seven looms in the village, and the fabrics produced on them—some of which are on display—were exported throughout the region and the Sierra Norte of Madrid. Also on display is the spinning wheel, a task that women also performed using spindles and spinning wheels after carding the wool sheared from the sheep.

v Dance Corner. Dance and the Octava festival are among our defining characteristics, to which we have dedicated a section of the museum and one of our informational brochures.

v Farm and Trade Tools. The people of Valverde were forced to be self-sufficient, and to survive the hardships, they had to rely on a subsistence economy. They were all livestock farmers, farmers, charcoal burners, beekeepers, carpenters, masons, basket weavers, etc.

v Black architecture. A construction style that has remained almost unchanged over the centuries, linked to the materials found in the local terrain. It is characterized by the use of stone masonry, wooden frames and beams, and slate roofs, a style repeated in all homes, workshops, and livestock sheds.

v In the area dedicated to the home, various household items are also on display, such as pots, platters, chopping boards, bowls,
