Sepúlveda's "Siete Llaves" Amateur Theater Competition

Since 2012, June has become the month of theater par excellence in Sepúlveda. The Teatro Bretón serves as the venue for this event.

Seven (like the seven keys to the seven gates of Sepúlveda) are the performances staged during this festival. And there are also seven awards presented at a Closing Gala that has become a benchmark in the industry for its excellent organization and staging, brimming with color, poetry, enthusiasm, emotion, authenticity, joy, and freshness.

The awards are:

• Key to the Best Company

• Key to the Runner-Up Company

• Key to Best Production

(These three awards come with a cash prize.)

• Key to Best Actor

• Key to Best Actress

• Key to Best Supporting Actor

• Key to Best Supporting Actress

• Key to Best Director

In addition to these seven awards presented by a jury, there is one very special award: the prize given each year by the audience attending the Sepulveda Theater Festival.

At this year’s festival, since performances began at the Teatro Bretón, more than 900 audience members have enjoyed a month of excellent theater—a month during which the town of Sepúlveda has, for years, become the “Town of Amateur Theater” in the province of Segovia. The future of the “Siete Llaves” Amateur Theater Festival is assured, as it is a well-established event not only in the town and the province but also throughout Spain, with hundreds of registration applications received from theater companies across the country.

With this year’s closing gala, the Teatro Bretón brought down the curtain with a commitment to reopen in less than a year for this festival, with the goal of continuing to work toward the development of the performing arts and theater in the municipality of Sepúlveda and throughout the region.
