Rank Points and Coins: Two Counters, Two Purposes
A single verified visit can boost your rank and fill your wallet. Learn what counts, what doesn't, and why they aren't the same thing.
In the Club of Spain’s Most Beautiful Towns, a single getaway can leave two different marks: one on your identity as an explorer and another on your wallet. Rank points measure your verified exploration; coins are the currency you can redeem. They aren’t the same thing, though they often grow together.
Two counters, two purposes
G01 explains in practical terms how to earn and spend coins. G20 goes a step further: what boosts your rank, what fills your wallet, what’s left out, and how to read the “Club Points Breakdown” screen without confusing it with generic traveler levels.
Rank Points
Explorer IdentityThese increase only through verified exploration: towns via GPS, resources and heritage sites, first visits to each business, and Club events.
Coins
Redeemable WalletCan be used for rewards, coupons, and digital content. They can also increase through repeat visits to businesses or in-store purchases.
What Doesn’t Count
Avoid surprisesManual visits, POIs, non-gamified multi-experiences, referrals, streaks, and badges do not contribute to these two counters.
Here’s how they look together on the website
At /my-account/club, the member hub displays the rank and, next to it, the two totals: Rank Points and Coins. From there, you can view the full breakdown or go redeem rewards.
The main screen is /my-account/club/points, titled “Club Points Breakdown.” There you’ll see the two large cards, the separator between rank and coins, the reach notification (GPS and QR/GEO), and the recent history.
Only verified exploration
Your rank increases with actions that prove you were actually there:
- A visit to a town in the network with verified GPS.
- Club tourist resources (QR) and natural resources (GEO).
- First visit to each Club business (with a rank cap per business).
- Validated Club events when included.
- Bonus for completing a town’s tourist resources, when applicable.
The interface itself sums it up: your rank only increases through verified exploration. Repeated visits to businesses and purchases from the store may earn you coins, but they do not increase your rank.
The wallet you can actually spend from
Coins come from verified exploration itself, as well as from actions that the system marks as redeemable even if they don’t count toward rank: repeat visits to businesses, store bonuses for active members, or specific community rewards when available. The breakdown by action type shows how that wallet is distributed—GPS towns, resources, businesses, events, or the store—without turning those figures into a fixed, unchangeable table.
Manual, non-gamified, or without a grant
The breakdown notice is clear: only visits to towns with verified GPS and Club QR/GEO validations count. Manual visits do not appear here because they are not redeemable and do not increase the Club’s rank.
May appear in the account’s general history, but does not contribute to the Club’s dual counter.
These are currently ungamified: they do not award points or coins. G19 explains this in detail.
They do not automatically award coins. The badge passport is a collection, not a wallet.
Coins are redeemed; your rank remains unchanged
At /my-account/club/rewards, you’ll see the wallet (“My Club Wallet”) and the live rewards catalog. Redeeming deducts available coins. Your rank doesn’t drop when you spend: these are separate counters with different purposes. Redeeming and using coins in the store require an active membership; viewing the breakdown only requires being logged in.
Three different types of progress
| Progress | What it measures | Where to view |
|---|---|---|
| Rank Points | Verified Club Exploration | /my-account/club and /my-account/club/points |
| Coins | Redeemable balance | Breakdown, Wallet, and Rewards |
| Traveler Levels | General Account (includes manuals) | /my-account/points — this is not the Club rank |
The “Traveler Levels (General Account)” link in the breakdown leads to that third system on purpose. G21 will delve deeper into Club ranks; this page focuses on keeping currencies separate.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are rank points and coins the same amount?
No. They may increase with the same visit, but they use different rules and amounts. Rank measures verified progress; coins are a redeemable balance.
Does a manual visit increase my rank or my coins?
Not in the Club breakdown. Only verified GPS and QR/GEO validations count. A manual visit may appear in the general history, but it does not contribute to these counters.
Do all visits to a business increase my rank?
No. The rank takes into account the first visit to each business (with a cap). Repeat visits may earn coins without increasing your rank.
Do multi-experiences or POIs earn coins?
Not currently. They’re demotivated. No points or coins are promised for stops or for completing a multi-experience.
Do I need to be a member to view the breakdown?
To view the breakdown, simply log in. Validating QR codes/GEO, redeeming rewards, and using coins in-store do require an active membership.
Where do I start if I just want to spend coins?
Go to /my-account/club/rewards or the Club hub. G01 covers the process of earning and redeeming; G20 explains how the two counters work.
