Which town is covered in snow (and at what time will it be)?
Fall is here, and El Club is already ready for winter: snowfall by town, 24-, 48-, and 72-hour forecasts, and the real models—ECMWF, IFS, ICON, GFS, ARPEGE, UKMO, ICON-EPS EU at 7 km resolution, 850 hPa, 50-member ensembles—. A system that’s available only to members. And being a member means more than just the map.

Autumn 2026 · The Club puts on its hat
Autumn has just taken its seat at the table, and we are already setting the stage for winter. Not because we like to boast about our foresight, but because a day in the snow in Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España is decided on a Tuesday, not when you are already at the mountain pass with your wipers going full speed.
Going to this village instead of the one next door. Leaving today or waiting until Thursday. Heading up or staying in the town center. Until now, that was all guesswork—the cousin, the TV weather report, the "it looks like it might snow." Now, El Club shows it to you. And this isn't just some snowflake icon in any old app: it is the snow of this network, village by village, using the models favored by those who take the weather seriously.
In Spain, there is no other map of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España that tells you which village is white and, if you ask El Club, at what time it will be and whether the ECMWF and the ICON models are in agreement. That alone justifies the membership card. Then there are all the other perks of being a member. Let's take it one step at a time; winter is unforgiving to the unprepared.

The map belongs to everyone. The snow, to El Club
The map —web /mapa, Maps tab in the app— can be opened by anyone. The villages in the network, wildfires, and wind remain public. A burning forest or a storm blowing in isn't hidden behind a padlock. The snow, however, is: it is the first layer of the map reserved for members.
If you are an active member, you don't need the AI add-on to see it. The maps belong to every member. The AI is for when you want to go further: the time, the mountain pass, the models, the 850 hPa. First the map. Then, if you get the itch, El Club.

Snow now
The blanket on the ground, in centimeters, over the villages in the network or other locations. Light (from 1 cm), medium (from 5), or heavy (from 20). Which village is white today —now, not "this week"— and which one is worth a trip. If you click on the village, you see its figure. If you click on a point on the grid, you see the centimeters and, when available, the altitude of that point.
Violet · what is coming
24, 48, or 72-hour forecast
New snow. Not "possible snow in the afternoon." Where it will fall and how much the model accumulates in that timeframe. Light from half a centimeter, medium from 5, heavy from 15. Blue and violet are intentionally kept separate: what you have under your boots is one thing, and what is still in the sky is another.
One centimeter in the model is not a "snowy village": we don't paint it below that. Half a centimeter of new snow is just noise and doesn't appear either. We prefer to be conservative rather than sell you a white village that, upon arrival, is gray and slippery.
Thursday night, not Saturday at seven
Imagine it's Thursday. On TV, there is a map of Spain with a snowflake the size of Palencia. You want real snow: streets, rooftops, photos, hot chocolate. Not a mountain pass forty minutes away with your car covered in slush.
You open the El Club map. Snow now tells you if Albarracín, Frías, or Bárcena Mayor are already white —and how many centimeters deep. Forecast tells you if more is coming on Friday or Saturday, and where. You choose your village. If you have the AI, you ask it: "what time does it start in Pedraza?", "does the snow level reach the town center or stay at the pass?", "do the European and ICON models agree?". El Club answers with the time, the models, and, if there is a discrepancy, the figures behind the debate.
That is how you plan a day out. The alternative is heading out blindly and coming back saying it was "almost" perfect.
Those who aren't members see the shop window. Not the store
The two switches are there. The padlock too. There is a hook with real figures—how many villages in the network are snow-covered, in how many it might snow within 72 hours, some names—and the high-level door. We are not painting an empty shell or a fake interface. The public village comparator, /meteo, is still there for everyone: temperature, a quick glance. This is not that. This is a different league.

The map shows the blanket. The Club lets you into the kitchen
The map answers where. The Club answers when, at what altitude, and according to whom. On the website, ask El Club. In the app, the same chat. A village in the network, a mountain pass, the place where you live, or wherever you feel like going.
“What time does it start snowing in Pedraza?” “Is it snowing in the street or only at the mountain pass?” “Does it freeze at dawn?” “Which is the coolest village in the network today?” “Where is there snow right now?” “Does the snow level drop to the altitude of Frías?” “What does the 850 hPa say for Saturday at 08:00?” That is what is asked. And El Club does not invent the time: it pulls it from the data. If there is no data, it says so.
That is the AI of El Club: add-on, trial period, or credits. It is not included in every membership, and it is good to know. The map does not need it. Whoever is a member and does not have it yet still sees the snow; in the legend, they will see the prompt to ask. Whoever has it, enters the models.
The models. The real ones. By name and surname
We are not going to sell you "the weather" here. We are going to tell you which models you can look at, because if you really like snow, you already know them—or you will like getting to know them. Each one is a different run, with its grid, its center, and its quirks. Having them together, over the village you choose, is what the mobile icon doesn't give you.
Deterministics that cover the peninsula, the ones an enthusiast names:
ECMWF IFS 0.25° — the European one from Reading. A quarter-degree grid, about 25–28 km. The one half of Europe looks at when in doubt. It is not the finest, but it is the one that is usually right at three and four days.
ICON — the German one from the DWD. Often the first to "see" the Atlantic differently. Useful when the European and the American don't agree.
GFS — the American one from NOAA. The classic, the lifelong one, the one you must have for comparison. If you only trust one, you are just sightseeing. If you look at GFS and ECMWF, you are starting.
ARPEGE Europe — Météo-France. European grid; at four days, no more. Beyond that, it drops out of the comparison; we don't disguise it with silence.
UKMO Global 10 km — the British one. Ten kilometers: one of the fine ones that does reach Spain. A tucked-away village looks more like it than the 25 km IFS.
ECMWF AIFS — the artificial intelligence model from ECMWF itself. It is not El Club: it is Reading, in its own way. It appears in the comparison so you can see if it aligns with the classic IFS or goes in another direction.
If a model has not run over your village, it drops out. We don't paint it at zero or disguise it as "no data." The German ICON-D2, that very fine two-kilometer grid that is so popular in forums, does not reach Spain: asking for it for Frías or Pedraza is inventing an output. We don't do that. We prefer the one that has actually run here.
Fine grid: the valley, the mountain pass, the tucked-away village
A 25 km model sees a plateau. A village in the network is usually a fold: a river, a mountain pass, a shady slope. That is where the grid matters.
The fine grid that does cover the peninsula is the ICON-EPS EU: nested ensemble at 7 km, 39 members. That is where the detail of a valley, a mountain pass, or a tucked-away town center is. The deterministic UKMO, at 10 km, is the other fine one that arrives. The global ICON and the American GEFS are coarser; the UKMO ensemble, at 20 km. Each one counts. Together, even more.
Note: the ICON-EPS EU is a surface ensemble. It shines in new snow and probability. It does not publish the 850 hPa column. The 850 is provided by others—the IFS ENS, the AIFS ENS, the Canadian GEM, and the deterministics that do output levels. Asking the 7 km one for the temperature at 1,500 meters would be, once again, inventing data. El Club does not do that.
The ensembles: real probability, not just for show
An ensemble is not an ornament. It is the same model run dozens of times, each time slightly different, to see how much the idea that it is going to snow holds up.
ECMWF IFS ENS — 50 members. The reference one. It does include levels (850, 700, 500…).
ECMWF AIFS ENS — another 50, the AI version of the European model. Also with levels.
ICON-EPS EU — 39 members at 7 km. The high-resolution one for the peninsula.
ICON-EPS Global — 39 members, coarser, longer range.
GEFS 0.25° — 30 American members.
GEM Global ENS — 20 Canadian members. One of the few ensembles that also publishes levels.
UKMO Global ENS 20 km — 17 British members.
“A 40% chance of snow” in the IFS ENS means 20 out of 50 members show snow. That is a probability. The 60% from a single deterministic run, no: that is a dressed-up occurrence. The Club tells you as “X out of N members,” with the plume (p10, p50, p90) and the time when the models disagree the most. “They coincide” without a figure is not information. It is marketing. And in meteorology, we are immune to that.
You can request up to 7 days hour by hour. You can choose models. You can ask for just the European and the nested-grid ICON. You can ask if they coincide. The Club gives you the dispersion —the figure, the time, the threshold used for the judgment— and not a “it seems so.”
The level that matters
850 hPa: about 1,500 meters
The temperature at 850 hPa tells you if the air mass is truly cold or if it is just a gloomy day on the street. If there is 1 °C at the surface and +6 at 850, you are trusting a cowardly thermometer: there is no cold air aloft to sustain snow. If there is −3 or −4 at 850, things are getting serious even if the village is still seeing sleet.
850 hPa, 700, 500: the column, not the town square thermometer
hPa stands for hectopascal: pressure. The higher the altitude, the lower the pressure. Meteorologists do not look at “the sky” as a single block: they slice the air into floors.
The snow floor, the one that truly counts for a village in Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España, is 850 hPa. About 1,500 meters. That is where you see if the incoming air mass is polar or just lukewarm soup disguised as winter. You can also check 700 hPa (about 3,000 m: how deep the cold is) and 500 hPa (about 5,500 m: where the storm is coming from). The rest of the column, if you are curious.
The zero isotherm is the altitude where the model sets 0 °C. The snow level is usually lower: it takes time for a snowflake to melt. Both are compared with the altitude of the village. Not “at what altitude does it snow in the abstract?” but “is it snowing on my street?” If the snow level is a hundred meters from the bell tower, The Club does not commit: that is sleet, and pretending to be precise would be cheating.
And if it is not precipitating, there is no level to provide. A snow level orphaned from rain is a number that escaped the model —pretty, round, and lying—. We do not serve it to you. Nor a level above the zero isotherm: that does not exist, no matter how certain the figure sounds.
Being a member is this. And everything else
The snow alone is worth the subscription. But The Club is not a winter gadget that gets stored in the attic in April.

What we don't promise
These are not raw outputs from numerical models. They do not replace official reports or road information. There is no meteorologist on duty signing off on every village. A model can fail; that is why we let you see several, and the overall picture. The centimeters are an order of magnitude, not a ruler on the ground. We will be sharing news about Christmas in the villages of the network: we are not selling you nougat today. Today, we are selling you the end of guessing about the snow.
