DON GIL DE LAS CALZAS VERDES

Corral de Comedias

March 6, 2026 - 8:30 p.m.

Don Gil de las Calzas Verdes is a classic of the Spanish Golden Age that continues to resonate strongly in our time.

Written in the 17th century, this play is much more than a comedy of errors; it is a celebration of wit and female power, values that today, more than ever, we need to recognize and vindicate on stage.

THE BIRTH OF THALIA

Corral de Comedias

March 7, 2026 - 8:30 p.m.

This vibrant theatrical celebration begins with the unexpected appearance of the goddess Thalia, who gives birth to a peculiar troupe of characters born from the very essence of Golden Age comedy. Directed by Antonio Laguna, the play immerses us in a whirlwind of entanglements where impetuous lovers, braggarts, cunning hustlers, and perceptive servants find themselves involved in hilarious and moving situations. The plot unfolds in a festive and popular atmosphere, seasoned with songs and folklore from La Mancha, exploring the eternal conflict between carnal desires and social duties, life and death. It is an ingenious tribute to minstrels and jesters, connecting the audience with the rich theatrical tradition of our Golden Age in an irreverent and joyful way, bringing history to life before their eyes.

NO ONE WAS GIVEN POISON IN LAUGHTER

Corral de Comedias

March 8, 2026 - 6:30 p.m.

The actors of Impromadrid, expert improvisers, throw themselves into playing with the Golden Age with the sole aim, as Lope said, of delighting the audience. With the help of suggestions from the audience, they will create comic scenes in which knights, rogues, kings, and servants will tackle the predominant themes of the Golden Age: the entanglements of love, honor, religion, and the transience of life.

Because, both then and now, laughter is necessary and, as Lope said, "No one has ever been poisoned by laughter."
