La Fiesta Xica (small)

18 Mar 2026 · 12:17

The "xica" town festival is celebrated on June 16 in honor of Saint Quirc, who is venerated at the Romanesque chapel on the outskirts of town, one of the best viewpoints in the Vall de Boí.

The day before, the descent of the fallas is celebrated; these have been in preparation for 15 days, during which time villagers have gone into the forest to cut down pine and boxwood and prepare the "faro." The "faro" consists of a tall pine tree driven into the ground, surrounded by pine branches propped up at the top, with the gaps filled with boxwood.

Every household prepares its own falla, made from a bundle of torches tied vertically to the falla’s handle.

On the day of the descent, the "fallaires" light the lighthouse and then light the fallas. With all the fallas lit and lined up in single file, led by the fadrí mayor, they descend toward the village until they reach the square, which is filled with people and musicians cheering them on upon their arrival.
