Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, Viniegra de arriba
Viniegra de Arriba
POI

Located in the heart of Viniegra de Arriba, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is the main religious temple of the municipality and one of the heritage jewels of the Rioja mountains. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, it is a magnificent example of Renaissance style with later Baroque elements.
Its imposing ashlar façade and solid bell tower dominate the profile of the village. In the interior, with a Latin cross plan, valuable altarpieces are preserved, highlighting the main altar, which houses the image of the Virgin of the Assumption, patron saint of the town. The ribbed vaults, the semicircular arches and the religious carvings give a solemn and monumental character to the whole.
This church has been for centuries the center of the religious and social life of the Viniegrenses. The main festivities of the town, such as the Assumption (August 15) and other deeply rooted traditions are celebrated around it.
