El Quartijo is the oldest urban area of Vilafamés and the primitive nucleus from which the town began to develop. Located at the foot of the castle, this sector preserves the structure of the first inhabited area of the town. The neighborhood was protected by a system of walls that delimited the old town, the first medieval urban area of the municipality. In this area were concentrated some of the oldest buildings of Vilafamés, such as the Casa de la Villa or the Iglesia de la Sang, which reflect the political and religious organization of the town in the first centuries after the Christian conquest. Its narrow streets, with an irregular layout and abundant vegetation maintain the intimate and quiet character of the old medieval enclosures. Strolling through the Quartijo allows you to discover the historical origin of Vilafamés and understand how the first urban settlement was configured around the castle.
