The Museu d'Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni (MACVAC) is one of the most important cultural spaces in Spain dedicated to contemporary art. Located in the historic center of Vilafamés, the museum occupies the historic Palau del Batle, a Gothic civil building from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries perfectly integrated into the medieval fabric of the municipality. Founded in 1969 by the art critic Vicente Aguilera Cerni, the museum was born with the aim of bringing contemporary art closer to society and creating a space for artistic reflection in a unique heritage environment. Since then it has established itself as a benchmark in the dissemination and study of contemporary art. The museum has about 900 works in its collection, of which about 400 are permanently exhibited in its different rooms. The collection brings together painting, sculpture, graphic works and other artistic disciplines, offering a journey through some of the most relevant currents of art from the mid-twentieth century to the present. Among the artists represented in the collection are internationally renowned names such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, Antoni Tàpies and Eduardo Chillida, along with numerous national and international artists. The museum complex has recently expanded with the incorporation of the Abbey House, a building declared an Asset of Cultural Interest granted by the Diputació Provincial de Castelló in 2024, which reinforces the presence of the museum in the historic center. With nearly 1,500 m² of exhibition space, the MACVAC makes Vilafamés a unique cultural destination where historical heritage and contemporary artistic creation coexist in the middle of the medieval town.
