Church of San Martín de Tours

The Church of San Martín de Tours dominates the Plaza Mayor of Trujillo. Built between the 14th and 16th centuries over a medieval temple, it stands out for its sober exterior architecture and its majestic ribbed vaults of terceletes in the interior. Its strategic location and its role as the pantheon of illustrious Trujillo families make it a key part of the monumental ensemble.

Castle (IX-XII centuries)

Trujillo Castle, built between the ninth and twelfth centuries on the ancient Arab citadel, crowns the highest part of the city. This imposing military fortress stands out for its granite ashlar walls and its seventeen square defensive towers. From its battlements the best views of the Extremadura pasture are obtained, being a living testimony of the Islamic and Christian past of the town.

Church of Santa María la Mayor

The Church of Santa María la Mayor is the most emblematic temple of Trujillo. Built on the site of a former mosque, it is a fusion of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Its bell tower stands out, unique in Extremadura, and a spectacular 15th century altarpiece that narrates the Passion of Christ. Its naves with ribbed vaults crown this Historic-Artistic Monument, a jewel of Trujillo's heritage.

Plaza Mayor

The Plaza Mayor of Trujillo is the beating heart of the city and a reference of Renaissance urbanism.
