The route of the fountains-lavadero of Trevélez crosses landmarks such as the one in the Plaza del Barrio Bajo, Colón, the Ham or the Chestnut. These spaces are still the soul of the village: they supply drinking water, serve as watering places and function as traditional washing places. In addition to their practical utility, they are social meeting points that keep alive the communal essence of the Alpujarra.

Urban area

The town center of Trevelez captivates with its steep stone streets and its layout of Muslim origin. In the Plaza de Francisco Abellán (Barrio Bajo), local life bustles between craft stores and typical restaurants. The whole stands out for its Alpujarran architecture, with houses with white facades and flat roofs ("terraos") that are perfectly adapted to the slope of the Sierra Nevada.

Houses of the Three Little Pigs

The Houses of the Three Little Pigs are a curious thematic route spread over the three levels of Trevélez. In the Barrio Bajo is located the straw house; in the Middle, the wooden one; and in the Alto, the stone one, the most resistant. This initiative brings a playful and fairytale touch to the tour of the village, integrating with ingenuity in the traditional architecture of each of its altitudes.

Tinaos

The tinaos are unique elements of Alpujarran architecture in Trevelez. They are public transit spaces that are covered under the roofs of private homes, creating unique tunnels and arcades. Decorated with colorful pots and traditional elements, these corners preserve the essence of the Moorish legacy and offer shelter from the high mountain climate.
