Ecocultural Corridor on the road from Trevejo to Jálama

Decree 190/2016 of the Junta de Extremadura incorporated this corridor into the Network of Protected Areas. Its 16.3 km route, paved in many sections, links Trevejo with Villamiel and San Martín de Trevejo, up to the Jálama peak. It crosses protected areas such as the ZEPA "Sierra de Gata" and the ZEC of the same name. Its landscapes of oak trees, orchards, olive groves, vineyards and terraces show the natural and cultural richness of the environment.

Gastronomy that makes you fall in love

The landscapes surrounding Trevejo are marked by olive groves, vineyards, chestnut and oak trees. From them are born unique products such as Antier and Trasantier wines, produced in the Sierra, and Valdejara honey. Many neighbors produce their own oil, although the oil from Hacienda Nava del Rey, available in the bar El Buen Avío, is also outstanding. The typical sweet is the caña, a cream-filled puff pastry that is sold on Sundays or during festivals. The women of the town make them for the offerings of the Cristo de la Salud in May and September.

Trevejo Castle, Anthropomorphic Tombs, Espadaña and all its stone streets.

The Castle of Trevejo, of Muslim origin (12th century), was rebuilt in the 15th century. Free access, it offers unique views, especially at sunset. In its surroundings stand out anthropomorphic tombs carved in the rock, of possible Christian origin. The belfry, used until recently to announce mass, stands on an old tower. Strolling through the cobbled streets of this village, among traditional houses, you can admire panoramic views of the Sierra de San Pedro and Santa Olalla. An enclave with history and charm in every corner.

Hiking route of between 8 and 10 km that runs along the banks of the stream of the Lagares, where once stood up to nine old oil and wheat mills. The route, descending from the castle, offers spectacular scenery throughout the year. Two mills can be visited; one of them, Aqua et Oleum, offers lodging, gastronomy and unique views from its swimming pool. Other mills conserve visible structures next to the path. Ideal for history and nature lovers.

Celestial Trevejo

Trevejo is a privileged place for astronomical observation thanks to its low light pollution. Since 2022 it has been Starlight certified, which recognizes it as an ideal destination to enjoy the night sky. Throughout the year there are various scientific outreach activities and guided observations that make up an attractive astronomical program. Local companies such as Astrogata and Canopea actively collaborate in these unique experiences under the stars.

San Juan in Trevejo

The feast of St. John in Trevejo recovers the San Juan tradition of the ancient Order of the Hospitallers, forgotten after losing the municipal entity. Thanks to an ethnographic study on local customs and history, in June 2023 it was celebrated for the first time with great success. Neighbors and visitors enjoy rituals with aromatic herbs, purifying water and infusions. Fire, legends and nature merge in a unique experience that seems to be here to stay.
