Stops

4 stop(s) in this experience

1

Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, of late Gothic style, is the main temple of Setenil. It was built over the old mosque under the patronage of the Catholic Monarchs after the conquest of the town in 1484. It stands out for its robust architecture and its interior, which houses a valuable Crucified Christ of the seventeenth century and an altarpiece of great artistic value.
2

Tower and Cistern

The Torre del Homenaje is the most imposing vestige of the old Almohad fortress that, since the 12th century, protected the rock of Setenil de las Bodegas. Under the tower is preserved a historic cistern with two barrel vaults supported by central pillars and brick arches. This military complex is key to understanding the resistance of the town during the Reconquest.
3

Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra Streets

The streets Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra are the soul of Setenil. In the first, facing south, the light bathes the facades of the cave houses under the rock. In contrast, that of the Shadow offers a spectacular view where the sky disappears, replaced by an immense stone mass suspended over the passers-by. Both are unique examples of the architecture of the village.
4

Hermitage of San Benito

The Hermitage of San Benito is an emblematic temple of Setenil de las Bodegas. In its main altar is kept the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, one of the most venerated carvings of the town and protagonist of its deep-rooted Holy Week. Its simple architecture and its deep devotional value make it a key spiritual stop to understand the religious identity of the town.
