Prior's Palace
The whole of Roda de Isábena was born as a Roman defensive fortress, located on the top of a hill from which the whole valley could be seen. In 907 the primitive castle was destroyed and then defensive towers, another castle and the cathedral were built around the year 957. In 1035 the cathedral was consecrated again. The castle that defended Roda was never rebuilt, but its walls were recently restored and the prior's palace was built in 1525 by Pedro Agustín on the site of the old abbey. The prior's palace occupies a large part of the town of Roten, stands at one end of the town overlooking Esdolomada, Güel, Turbón... located behind the temple. It consists of a tower of three floors, of rectangular plant, of 6,45 by 5,60 meters of side, and almost 1 m. Of thickness, being the useful surface of about 17 square meters to the interior, it is of masonry work with ashlar stone in windows and door, it is possible to emphasize its stone door in arch of average point with great voussoirs and shield in the keystone, on her a linteled and molded window with guardapolvo, similar to that of Casa Turmo of the near locality of Merli, and in the third floor three openings of average point where the central one is protected with a dormer supported on ogee arches. In the rest of the walls there are similar openings to those of the main facade as well as some loopholes. It is covered with a gable roof with slabs. Next to it there are other outbuildings such as orchards and gardens and an attached house. Declaration, XXI Century (2006) The fortified Palace of the Prior of Roda de Isábena is included in the list of castles considered Assets of Cultural Interest by virtue of the second additional provision of Law 3/1999, of March 10, on Aragonese Cultural Heritage.
