Infantado Tower (15th century)

Infantado Tower (15th century)

The Infantado Tower is the emblem of Potes and the most outstanding civil construction in Liébana. This solid medieval building of masonry, with ashlar corners, has four bodies topped by a roof with barbican and battlements. At its corners are four crenellated cubic towers. Restored and inaugurated in 2011, it houses a carefully designed museum spread over six floors and 1,800 m², with rooms around a central courtyard. The use of hardwood, Corten steel and glass gives the interior a contemporary atmosphere that elegantly frames its medieval essence.

Old Church of San Vicente Mártir (XIV century)

The old church of San Vicente Mártir, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2000, is a magnificent example of transition from Romanesque to Gothic. Its construction, between the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries, began with a single nave with four bays and a main chapel covered with a ribbed vault. In the 16th century the sacristy and the bell tower were added. Later, in the 18th century, it was doubled on the Gospel side with a nave of five bays. Today it houses the Center for Lebaniegos Studies and municipal offices, after being restored by the Government of Cantabria in 1996.

Walk under the bridges

In the picturesque town of Potes, the River Path runs along the right bank of the rivers Deva and Quiviesa for two kilometers, from the Bridge of San Cayetano to the area of Las Vegas. This pleasant walk allows you to discover hidden corners of the capital of Potes and offers unique views, such as the confluence of the rivers under the Puente de la Cárcel, dominated by the silhouette of the Torre del Infantado. The name of Potes, derived from the Latin word Pontes, alludes to its numerous bridges, witnesses of history. A natural, patrimonial and charming route.
