Plaza Mayor
For many, it is one of the most beautiful squares in Spain; irregular in shape and created for the noble families of the town to enjoy from their balconies, the bullfighting festivities held since 1550. Today, it continues to be transformed into a bullring, wearing its best clothes during the Patron Saint Festivities in honor of the Virgin of Carrascal, from September 6 to 11. Few families were privileged to live in this square, still preserving their palaces and mansions dating from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, presided over by imposing facades and elegant coats of arms, responsible for reminding us today, to whom they belonged then. In one of these palaces, King Charles IV stayed during a three-day visit to the town, enjoying in front of the balcony, the celebrations organized in his honor. Presiding over the Plaza, stands the Church of San Juan Bautista, the only temple that remains open for worship today. We must not forget its many appearances in films, series and television commercials, in which not a few visitors recognize some famous corners when they walk along its cobblestone floor. For all these reasons and many more, without a doubt, the heart of Pedraza is in its Plaza Mayor, a unique place full of history.
