Sierra de las Nieves National Park

Declared a National Park in 2021, this natural area stands out for its karst geology, peridotite outcrops and the presence of the Spanish fir, a unique fir tree in the world. It covers 22,979 ha and eight municipalities, including Parauta. Its natural wealth coexists with a valuable historical legacy: farmhouses, castles, orchards, irrigation ditches and mills. From the Conejeras Campsite you can access routes such as Las Escaleretas or the Conejeras Circular Path, among oak forests, pinsapos and dolinas. It is ideal for hikers and lovers of biodiversity.

Parauta, gateway to the Genal Valley and the Sierra de las Nieves National Park, stands out for its Moorish layout, irregular streets and whitewashed houses without plaster. Among its key points: the church of the Immaculate Conception, the threshing floor of the Piñuela, the Valdecillo oak (more than 300 years old), historical fountains such as the Fuente Alquería or Pozuelo, the sculpture of Omar ben Hafsún, the Fuente Alquería viewpoint and a peculiar Mudejar arch. Enchanted forest of Parauta

The magic begins at the Salvador Márquez viewpoint, known as "El Llanillo de la Fuente". This trail, accessible to all, runs through a forest of ancient chestnut trees in the Genal Valley. Local sculptor Diego Guerrero has carved figures of fairies and magical beings on the trunks, creating a unique environment. In autumn, the forest is transformed into a sea of copper tones, so it is also known as the "Copper Forest", an ideal place for hikers and nature lovers.
