Barrio Bajo

Pampaneira

POI

Barrio Bajo
From the Plaza de la Iglesia, we descend to the lower neighborhood along Verónica Street, where we can see two features of popular architecture: on the left a primitive "tinao", like a porch over the entrance to the house, and the layout of the street without a layout, like a cobblestone path that originally served as access between the orchards adjacent to each house. The lower neighborhood was used by farmers, due to its proximity to the farmland, and in the past it was well differentiated from the upper neighborhood where the shepherds lived, due to its proximity to the ravines that led to the pastures of the Sierra. If we continue towards Calle Princesa we can see the first fully developed tinao covering the entire street; here we have an exponent of the popular gastronomy of great tradition in the region, the pork butchery. From here we descend to Viso Street, where the village almost ends and we find a weaving workshop, a legacy of the rich silk industry of Granada in the past, although nowadays fibers that have nothing to do with silk are woven. In particular, a weave of shreds of cloth is used that comes from the use of old clothes that are used to weave the so-called jarapas.
