Stops

4 stop(s) in this experience

1

Isabel II Reservoir

Inaugurated in 1850, this jewel of 19th century hydraulic engineering was once one of the largest dams in Europe. Although today it is clogged with sediment, its imposing stone walls and neoclassical architecture remain a visual spectacle. It is a mute testimony of the effort to tame water in arid lands and a key point to understand the agricultural history of the area.
2

Water Museum

Located in the old food market, this educational space pays tribute to Nijar's most precious resource. Through its rooms, the visitor discovers the ingenious collection and storage systems, such as waterwheels, irrigation ditches and cisterns of Arab heritage. It is an essential stop to understand how the culture of water has shaped the landscape, the economy and the identity of this artisan village.
3

Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation

Built in the 16th century over a former mosque, this church is a magnificent example of the Mudejar style. Its sober earth-colored façade stands out, especially its impressive wooden coffered ceiling, one of the best preserved in the province. In its bell tower, defensive features can be seen, reminding us of the time when the temple also served as a refuge from pirate attacks.
4

Urban Center

The soul of Nijar lies in its labyrinth of narrow white streets that climb the slopes of the Sierra Alhamilla. Awarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, its layout of Arab origin dazzles with facades full of pots and traditional craft stores. Strolling through its neighborhoods is to discover the essence of pottery and the famous jarapas, in an environment of peace and Mediterranean light.
