Giner Factory
Morella
POI

Just 4 kilometers from Morella, on the CV 14 road, next to the Bergantes River, is the old Giner Factory. An industrial colony dedicated to the textile industry from the mid-nineteenth century until the second decade of the twentieth century. This factory follows the model of the Catalan industrial colony, in which the workers had housing, a school and a chapel next to the factory.
The first company name of the factory dates back to 1844 with the Giner i Guimerá brothers, who bought the Zurita Mill, essential for the operation of the factory. In 1877 Vicenta Guimerá Rocafort died, mother of Juan Giner, an enterprising woman and main figure of the factory. Between 1870 and 1876 the main buildings of the factory complex were built. In 1871 an 80-horsepower steam engine was in operation, in 1885 the 40-meter high chimney was built, in 1896 there were 121 people registered in the factory and some 400 people worked directly and indirectly. In 1904, 40 steam looms were in operation.
