A Fervenza Recreational Area

PARAJE

A river recreational area located about 2.5-3 km from Mondoñedo, in the parish of Tronceda, next to the Tronceda river, a tributary of the Masma. The place is organized around a riverbed that generates waterfalls, pools and a natural pool, features that explain its scenic interest and its traditional use as a place for bathing and summer rest. The most visible features are the nearby waterfalls, clear water and river pools, accompanied by picnic areas and, according to several local descriptions, tables and barbecues. It is a popular place to spend the day with the family or to take a short walk in the immediate surroundings of the river, with a landscape of rocks, riverside vegetation and small slopes very characteristic of the upper Mindonian basin. Its relevance is not monumental, but environmental and recreational: it combines local leisure with a stretch of river of remarkable natural attraction. In addition, some sources link it to the Terras do Miño Biosphere Reserve, although this reference corresponds to the wider territorial environment and not to a specific figure of protection of the site itself. Due to its location and the coincidence with the coordinates provided, it should be identified as the recreational area of A Fervenza de Mondoñedo, and not with other places of the same name in the northwest of the peninsula.

Salto de Coro waterfall

CASCADA

The Salto de Coro waterfall is a waterfall located in the valley of the river Valiñadares, in the natural environment of Mondoñedo, Lugo. It is part of the well-known Water Route, a hiking itinerary that links the historic center with river landscapes, forests and old rural roads in the municipality. In the informative descriptions it appears as a vertical jump of about 15 meters, although this figure does not appear in the municipal information available, so it is convenient to take it as an orientative reference. The main interest of the place is in its fit between rock walls and in the riverside landscape that surrounds it. The route allows to see the course of the Valiñadares, masses of native forest and the contrast between the historic village and its mountainous and humid environment. It is an enclave appreciated by visitors looking for a short walk and a photographic highlight, with the waterfall as the end of the route. From the territorial point of view, the municipality of Mondoñedo frames this space in a landscape of great landscape and biological uniqueness, at the foot of the Serra do Xistral and in a mosaic of valleys and slopes with abundant watercourses. That is why Salto do Coro fits well as a natural resource of proximity, linked to the network of local trails and the interpretation of the Mindoniense valley. Its relevance is mainly scenic and recreational, rather than monumental, and it is part of the nature proposals associated with Mondoñedo in local guides and routes. The visit is especially interesting for the combination of water, forest and rural heritage, in an environment that reflects well the relationship between the town and its natural environment.

Cova do Rei Cintolo

Cova do Rei Cintolo

Parque natural / Espacio natural

The Cova do Rei Cintolo is a natural cave and a space of geological and speleological interest located in Mondoñedo, in the province of Lugo, in the parish of Argomoso, between the districts of Orxal and Supena, very close to the town center. Due to its typology, it corresponds to a calcareous cave of great development and not to an architectural monument. The official municipal and Galician Tourism sources agree that it is the largest natural cave in Galicia and the one with the longest known horizontal route in the community. Physically, it has a labyrinthine structure with galleries of karstic origin, developed in a terrain with the presence of mud. The official tourist descriptions indicate an explored length of 6.5 km, three main levels of galleries, a drop of approximately 75 meters and outstanding subway forms such as stalactites, stalagmites, lava flows and flags. In the lower level circulates subway water, which feeds interior lakes and a course known as Celtas river. From the patrimonial point of view, the Council of Mondoñedo points out that the cave is catalogued by the General Direction of Patrimony as a Paleolithic type site, because it combines natural and historical interest. Turismo de Galicia also defines it as a unique space between science and legend, and highlights its cave fauna, with morcegos and invertebrates adapted to the subway environment. Tourist access is regulated and guided tours are available, with prior reservation at the Mondoñedo Tourist Office. Its conservation and the need for capacity control confirm the environmental value of the resource and its use as nature tourism and speleotourism equipment.

Printing Museum

Museo

Printing in Mondoñedo has a long tradition. The first book printed in Mondoñedo dates back to 1495 and it is Breve Forma de Confesión de Alonso de Madrigal, el Tostao, bishop of Avila and, therefore, it is an Incunabula. Today only one original copy of this work remains in the library of Braga, in Portugal. The museum makes a journey from the origins with special emphasis on the last 200 years.
