Located outside the urban area of the town, the primitive hermitage was built before the 16th century, as the carving of the Virgin is late Romanesque (13th century). Its appearance is related in a naive legend, with some girls picking strawberries as protagonists, presumably a building dedicated to that image existed previously. It was enlarged and consolidated in the 16th century and even today Renaissance and Baroque architectural elements remain. Given the orographic difficulty of the terrain, it was finished in the 17th century. The unmistakably baroque altarpiece was finished in the 18th century. The spectacular site itself offers a panoramic view of the valley of the river Francia and part of the villages of the Sierra de Francia, presided over by the omnipresent Peña de Francia.
