Zúñiga Castle

This 12th century fortress, rebuilt in the 14th century, is one of the best preserved in the province. Its imposing keep and ashlar walls with machicolations stand out. It was the center of power of the County of Miranda and today, although it is privately owned, its exterior continues to dominate the landscape of the mountains, recalling the feudal and defensive past of this strategic enclave.

Plaza or Patio de Armas

Located in front of the castle, this 16th century square is one of the oldest bullrings in Spain still in use. It was originally the parade ground of the fortress, but over time it was transformed into a multifunctional public space. Its square shape and stone enclosure make it a unique setting for bullfights and cultural events.

Walls

Miranda del Castañar preserves intact its walled enclosure of the thirteenth century, with a perimeter of about 600 meters. It is one of the few villages in Spain that maintains its complete walls, allowing the visitor to walk along the coastal path. It has four gates facing the cardinal points (San Ginés, Postigo, San Benito and La Villa), which still welcome visitors to the historic center.
