King Jayón Route. Travelling through the Campiña Sur (EN)

The King Jayón Route runs through the most significant enclaves of the Southern Countryside In addition to being a hiking proposal, this attractive journey through the Campiña Sur combines nature and heritage to offer a unique experience. Along the 24 km of the King Jayón Route, you will get to know Llerena, a city declared a Historic-Artistic Site with significant monuments such as the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Granada, in the Mudejar Gothic style, as well as palaces, noble buildings, towers, walls and monumental gates. In Fuente del arco, the route allows you to appreciate the beauty of the Mina de la Jayona, Natural Monument since 1997 and the hermitage of the Virgen del Ara, known as the Sistine Chapel of Extremadura. In Reina, an enclave known as the balcony of the Southern Countryside, the route surprises with its Arab citadel and its Visigothic hermitage where the Virgin of Las Nieves is venerated. At this same point there are also impressive views of the mountains and the countryside, as well as the Roman city of Regina, already in Casas de Reina and the next destination of the hike. In addition to these heritage resources, there are also natural resources, due to the diversity of landscapes that can be contemplated. The organization has set up refreshment areas and security points along the route. In addition, at the Roman City of Regina there will be buses for those who wish to leave the hike. At that same point, the hiker can also decide whether to continue towards Llerena along a flat stretch or to reach the Sierra de San Miguel. This route is always held on the last Sunday of April.
