This imposing temple presides over the Plaza de España and is unique for its exterior balcony of double arches, designed to witness spectacles in the square. Its architecture mixes styles from Gothic-Mudejar to Baroque. Zapata Palace

This stately building was the seat of the Tribunal of the Holy Office of the Inquisition since the 16th century. Its façade and Mudejar courtyard are magnificent examples of the noble architecture of the time. Although today it is a court building, its walls contain the history of the most powerful court in Extremadura, with its old prisons and courtrooms that marked the fate of the city for centuries.

Walls and Montemolin Gate

Llerena was protected by a solid walled enclosure of which today are preserved canvases and emblematic gates. The Montemolín Gate is the best preserved access, showing the robustness of the medieval defenses. Strolling around the walls allows one to imagine the fortified city of the 14th century and to contemplate how urban growth respected this important defensive legacy.
