Reestablishment of Santa Catalina University
In January 1770, the Royal Decree established that no university in the kingdom should grant bachelor's degrees without having at least two chairs. Fearing closure due to the new dispositions and the lack of resources, the rector asked Eleta to prevent the loss of the professorships of the natives of the town. Founded in 1550, the University of Santa Catalina lived its splendor for almost two centuries, but closed in 1770. In 1778, the City Council asked Eleta to intercede, which he achieved by reestablishing it under the Patronato Regio. The monarch allocated funds and chairs were created in various faculties, marking the beginning of a brilliant era for the institution.
