Port and Amphitheater of Cudillero

The fishing port and the set of houses of the amphitheater are the most recognizable image of Cudillero: colorful houses staggered on the slope of the natural bend from which the town takes its name. Starting point for strolling, watching the fishing and tasting fish and seafood. The scene of several films, from "José" in 1925 to the unforgettable "Volver a empezar", the first Spanish film to win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (1982).

Cudillero Lighthouse

Cudillero Lighthouse

Lighthouse on Punta Roballera indicating access to the port of Cudillero, and offering spectacular views of the town, is a privileged vantage point for photographing the Cantabrian coast. Nowadays it is readapted as tourist accommodation. The Cudillero lighthouse was inaugurated in 1858, replacing the old signaling system, which consisted in the use of bonfires lit by the fishermen's wives. It was electrified in 1930. In 1945 a siren was installed, which emits the letter "D" in Morse code, since the letter "C", which would be the logical one, was already used by the Candás lighthouse.

Humilladero Chapel

Humilladero Chapel

The oldest building in the town of Cudillero (13th century), a Gothic jewel with a square floor plan, buttresses and a ribbed vault with pointed arches. It houses the Christ of the Humilladero (15th century). In the past it was a place of devotion for sailors before the galleys and for legal acts. Restored around 2000, medieval paintings were discovered in the vault.

St. Peter's Church

Main parish church of Cudillero, late Gothic style, almost Renaissance, dating from the sixteenth century) and its interior has very interesting Baroque carvings. The temple was built according to the plans of Juan de Cerecedo, being master builder Pedro de Orna, master builder of the cathedral of Oviedo. It is closely related to the Church of Santo Domingo de Oviedo. The church of Cudillero was built by fishermen, and given the dimensions of the temple, this fact is relevant. It is a classic temple of Latin cross, the interior is very well preserved although the building externally does not do justice.

Selgas Palace (El Pito)

In the parish of Piñera, two kilometers from the center of Cudillero, El Pito hides one of the hidden treasures of Asturias: a splendid 19th century complex known as the "Asturian Versailles": three gardens (English, French and Italian) surrounding the central building, of neoclassical inspiration with Versailles decoration inside. The palace houses a magnificent collection of art and period furniture, the result of the efforts of the Selgas brothers. It can be visited during the summer months. https://www.selgas-fagalde.com/

Its traditional name is EL GAVIERU, but it is famous and known as THE BEACH OF SILENCE, is one of the most beautiful coves of the council: it combines small stone and coarse sand in a natural environment between cliffs, with clean waters and quiet atmosphere. Access on foot; ideal to enjoy the wildest Asturian coast.
