El Pescador Mural by Jesús Casaus

1. El Pescador Mural by Jesús Casaus

This mural of El Pescador (1986) reflects the essence of Cudillero through the eyes of Jesús Casaus. The impressionist painter fell in love with the town in the 70s, settling in the amphitheater to capture its light and sea. Such was his bond that, by express wish, his remains rest in the local cemetery. His work is today an eternal tribute to the seafaring identity he admired so much.
Cimadevilla Viewpoint

2. Cimadevilla Viewpoint

The Mirador de Cimadevilla is the heart of the amphitheater of Cudillero. It offers the most iconic view of the hanging houses, scene of films such as Volver a empezar or José (1925), the first film shot in the town. The latter adapts the novel by Palacio Valdés, a key work of maritime costumbrismo. From here, the mixture of mountain and sea explains why this landscape has inspired so many artists.
The Cudillero Lighthouse

3. The Cudillero Lighthouse

Located on Punta Rebollera on a 75m cliff, this lighthouse was inaugurated in 1858. It replaced the old system of bonfires that fishermen's wives used to light to guide their husbands. As a curiosity, since 1945 it has a siren that emits the letter "D" in Morse code; this signal was chosen so as not to confuse it with the letter "C" already used by the nearby Candás Lighthouse.
The Historic-Artistic Ensemble

4. The Historic-Artistic Ensemble

Cudillero was born of fishermen who, fleeing from the Normans, took refuge in the natural "elbow" of its coast, a term that gave the town its name. Its fishing abundance made the definitive settlement, marking the identity of its people. Its inhabitants are called "pixuetos", from the Latin piscis, reflecting a life linked to the sea that defines this picturesque Asturian amphitheater.
