POI
The Puerta del Sol is a medieval construction of the fourteenth century, built during the reign of Henry II of Trastámara. Its name comes from its fully eastern orientation, being the most exposed gate to the east of the city.
Originally it had defensive towers, which makes it one of the most important fortified gates of the enclosure. At the end of the 16th century it underwent a restoration that modified some of its structural elements.
At the beginning of the 18th century its vaults were rebuilt. After remaining closed for an undetermined period, it was reopened definitively in the 19th century.
